Holter MonitorHolter monitor: is a recording device that you wear for approximately 24 hours. The monitor is small and attaches to you by a strap over your shoulder or at your waist. The monitor is connected to you by three sticky electrodes. For optimal contact men may require their chest to be shaved. For this test please wear a loose-fitting blouse or shirt. Application of the monitor and explanation of its use takes approximately 20 minutes. If this is your first visit to our facility we ask you to arrive 15 minutes before to your appointment to complete paper work.
It is important that if you experience any of your symptoms while wearing the heart monitor you push a button to be sure that the time is highlighted for more intense evaluation. You will also be provided with a diary. Keep it with you and be sure to report any symptoms you experience. This way we can be sure to match your heart rhythm to your specific symptoms. Please try to sleep on your back and do not get the wires or the recorder wet. |
While you are wearing a holter monitor, you will be recording every one of your heartbeats (approximately 60 to 100 beats per minute). We will be able to evaluate each and every beat. Your doctor would order this test if you complain of a fast heart rate, palpitations, fluttering of your heart, skipped beat, fainting, or dizziness. This test could also be ordered if you have a pacemaker, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, or slow heart rate.
