Cardiac Ultrasound

A cardiac ultrasound is an imaging procedure where the technician generates a picture of the heart to evaluate the heart’s function. Ultrasound imaging relies on the use of high frequency sound waves to capture a picture of the inside of the body.

This procedure is noninvasive and simply requires the imaging probe to be placed on the chest in various locations. Patients must hold still to capture a clear picture, and may need to hold their breath for a few seconds in certain instances.
